One of the largest electric waste and street cleansing fleets in the UK has been unveiled by Westminster Council and partner Veolia.

The 60-strong new and upcycled EVs include e-RCVs, e-trikes and e-sweepers and will allow an 89% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to diesel alternatives.

The council said the move also cleans up the air and improves noise pollution.

Veolia helped Westminster install smart charging infrastructure across the West End, with the Farm Street depot in Mayfair now being fully electric.

Councillor Rachael Robathan, leader of Westminster City Council, said: “This collection of state-of-the-art electric vehicles will transform the way we clean our streets and collect waste and recycling across Westminster.

“Cleaning in the West End is now fully electric - and the rest of the city soon will be as we roll out more electric vehicles over the next 12 months.”
