Drivers handling waste collections in south London will see their wages increase by more than 36% when the contract transfers from Serco to Countrystyle Recycling, according to union Unite. A row over pay involving 1,000 GXO draymen which had threatened to affect beer deliveries has been resolved, after they voted overwhelmingly to accept a 4% pay deal.
The Unite union is predicting a “long hot smelly summer of bin strikes” in south London after it claimed Serco had failed to enter into negotiations over deteriorating industrial relations.
Serco has lost the contract to provide refuse collections in the London borough of Bexley, amid a union dispute over pay among its HGV drivers.
