Baxter Freight has announced record first half-year results, despite facing both the ‘once in a lifetime’ effects of the pandemic and the complexities of Brexit. The RHA and FTA have attacked the Migration Advisory Committee’s call to favour high-skilled migrants after Brexit, warning it would amplify the skills shortage the logistics sector already faces.
The Pallet Network (TPN) has thrown its net wide in the hope of attracting more drivers into the sector. Its latest recruitment campaign is using social media to target individuals that may have never considered becoming HGV drivers, such as van drivers, warehouse workers, young drivers, women, ethnic minorities and those that may have lost their jobs in hospitality and retail.
A career in logistics, including becoming an HGV driver, is the solution to spiralling unemployment rates – but the DVSA needs to sort out the thousands of lost driving tests during lockdown, according to Logistics UK.
