Haulage and construction firm Fox Brothers is continuing on the acquisition trail with the purchase of Lancashire operator J J O’Grady.

This latest purchase follows its acquisition of Leyland plant hire firm Clive Hurt in December last year, which has operating licences for 136 trucks and 36 trailers, making the group the largest provider of haulage and plant hire services in Lancashire.

Blackpool-based Fox Brothers, which is a FORS Gold operator, has operating licences for 106 trucks and 26 trailers consisting of eight-wheel tippers, artics, low loaders, road sweepers and Walking Floor trailers.

J J O’Grady, which operates a fleet of 12 trucks, specialises in the civil engineering, construction and highways maintenance sectors.

Fox director John Flood said: “The acquisition makes perfect strategic sense for our business as J J O’Grady adds a number of different services and different customers, including local authorities.

“It has an excellent reputation, and we believe it has a great deal of potential to grow. That’s our aim, to want to continue to build and grow the business by taking advantage of synergies across the wider Fox Group.

“In practical terms it’s a deal that makes solid business sense. We will be able to offer clients a more complete solution from site preparation through to highways and street maintenance. Our focus is on providing a single source solution for local authorities, housebuilders, infrastructure, construction and civils contractors.”

Founder Seamus O’Grady will remain at the helm of the business and the company will retain its branding with all day-to-day operations continuing to be carried out from its base at Lostock Hall in Lancashire.

John Flood added, “We will continue to look for other opportunities to expand our services.”
