DPD UK has acquired same-day delivery firm CitySprint in a move it said would strengthen its position in the market.
It follows a period of growth for CitySprint, which DPD said had seen continued demand for its services as businesses sought out more urgent and time critical same-day deliveries.
Elaine Kerr, DPD UK chief executive, said the sector was one of the fastest growing segments of the logistics markets: “Even before the pandemic, demand for both next-day and same-day deliveries was soaring, and this trend has only escalated, something which we see continuing,” she said.
CitySprint recently opened a service centre in Sheffield, which it said was in response to increased demand for courier and logistics services in the region and would support its Nottingham and Leeds service centres.
It said it had experienced a “huge boost” in DIY and retail logistics.

Its network comprises more than 30 service centres and a geographical reach to over 88% of the mainland population within an hour.
CitySprint chief executive Gary West said both companies had complementary offers: “This move is testament to both the continued strong demand for same-day delivery and our successful growth strategy,” he said.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and expected to complete later this year.
The existing CitySprint leadership team will remain in place.
The price paid was not disclosed.
