Maritime Transport is celebrating its distribution division’s tenth anniversary.

The container haulier diversified into the domestic distribution sector on 1 February 2011 with the purchase of 100 curtainsiders.

Ten years later Maritime’s domestic distribution division operates a fleet of 400 vehicles delivering an average of 6,000 customer deliveries per week, around the clock, seven days a week.

Of Maritime’s 40-plus depots, 16 host dedicated distribution fleets, with the division now turning over annual revenues of more than £150m.

Dave Boomer, Maritime’s chief executive officer of distribution, said: ‘Maritime has become a major player in the UK distribution sector and we are delighted with the year-on-year growth we have seen.

“Our policy of reinvesting our profits and owning our assets has underpinned this growth whilst the customer mix has accelerated the development of our rail offering and inland terminals.

Alex Williams, Maritime’s MD of distribution added: “Coupled to our established container division, Secondhand Trucks fleet sales arm and freight forwarding division, we have established a business which is diverse, robust, and capable of overcoming all challenges with the flexibility and knowledge base to seize all our opportunities.

‘Our diverse, national, networked approach sets us apart from other distribution companies in the UK today.

“We look at customer inbound and outbound supply chains as a single, integral, end-to-end process and utilise our resources to maximise efficiency and to create a benefit for customers.

“Having cut our teeth in the container market, at the sharp end of the hire and reward sector, we understand the importance of loaded miles to remain profitable, and this focus helps to drive cost out of our customers' supply chains."

He continued: ‘We are incredibly lucky to have such a brilliant workforce of staff and drivers at the forefront of our distribution services, and as we continue to develop our offering, we look forward to supporting our valued customers through their upcoming peaks whilst building on the fantastic relationships we have with them."
