electric bin lorry trial

A fully electric refuse truck has taken to the streets in Gloucestershire in a bid to make the entire district carbon neutral.

Ubico, which handles waste on behalf of Stroud district council, trialled the e-One electric truck, converted from a diesel-powered vehicle to an electric drivetrain.

It is one of the first full electric refuse vehicle conversions in the UK.

It was used on rounds in Stonehouse and Upton St Leonards, covering 55km and performing 1054 bin lifts and the vehicle collected 12.8 tonnes of waste.

The council said that after nine hours in operation, the truck had only used 71% of its battery life.

The vehicle was supplied by Refuse Vehicle Solutions and is the result of a joint initiative with Dutch electric power train developers EMOSS.
