Construction materials distributor Brickability Group has bought Lincolnshire haulier McCann for £1.75m to secure and control its supply lines from Europe ahead of Brexit.

McCann, which specialises in transporting building materials from factories in Europe to construction sites in the UK, will become Brickability’s in-house logistics and transport division division.

The Immingham-based haulier, which operates a fleet of over 100 trailers, curtainsiders and flatbeds, has a turnover of around £9.7m. Under the deal McCann and its staff will remain at its Immingham headquarters.

Arnold Van Huet, MD of Crest Group and member of the Brickability management board, will assume responsibility for the management of McCann.

Brickability is paying £1.75m for McCann, of which £1.225m was paid on completion with a further £525,000 payable over the next three years

The acquisition of McCann is part of Brickability’s wider strategy to acquire services and products which complement the business.

Alan Simpson, chief executive of Brickability, said: "This is a significant deal for Brickability. By bringing McCann into the Group we are securing our supply lines and reducing the risk of Brexit-related delays to logistics and haulage post 1st January.

"We look forward to welcoming the team to the Brickability Group and building an even stronger business in 2020.

"The team continues to identify and evaluate opportunities to deliver the IPO promise, retaining its focus on diversification and expansion."
