MAN is working with universities in Nuremberg to develop a hydrogen-based vehicle drive system.
It said this was the first time that academics and students would be running a laboratory and test rig for researching the technology directly at its plant premises.
MAN said researchers and engineers working together at its ‘Hydrogen Campus’ would make direct collaboration possible and would also speed up research.

The idea will also help the truck manufacturer identify potential student candidates and convince them that MAN is an “innovative employer”.
Dr. Frederick Zohm, MAN Truck & Bus executive board member said: “As a commercial vehicle manufacturer, we are facing our industry’s biggest transformation since the invention of the diesel engine.”
Professor Dr. Joachim Hornegger, president of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, said: “Our society needs new, sustainable forms of mobility - this transition to environmentally friendly transport can only succeed if scientists and the industry work closely together.”
