The delayed Birmingham City clean air zone (CAZ) will be launched on 1 June 2021, the city council has confirmed. The move will see non-Euro 6 trucks, buses and coaches charged £50 a day to enter the zone, which lies within the A4540 ring road. Non-compliant cars will be charged £8 a day. Kuehne + Nagel has put eight new Volvo FH Globetrotter LNG tractor units into 24/7 operation on two major contracts with Whitbread and Costa, as part of a drive to reduce emissions and improve the sustainability of its transport operations.
The FTA is calling on its members to urge Bristol City Council to drop proposals for a charging clean air zone (CAZ), which will see diesel cars allowed free access to most of the zone whilst non-compliant HGVs face charges of £100 a day.
The government must change tack and stop penalising the road transport industry over emissions while allowing car owners to get off scot-free, according to the FTA.
