Somerset’s Peter Green Haulage said a focus on fleet utilisation and reducing high fixed costs helped boost turnover by more than 10% last year, to £17m. Widdowson Logistics’ sister company Davis Haulage owed unsecured creditors £4.7m when it was placed into administration just before Christmas.
Tesco has taken delivery of 25 new refrigerated longer semi-trailers in order to help it achieve its aim of reducing carbon emissions. It will operate the new trailers from its RDCs in Avonmouth, Livingston and Peterborough, and each can carry six more cages than a standard 13.6m trailer. Tesco fleet engineering manager Cliff Smith said: “That represents an increase in productivity of more than 13%, so the potential benefits in terms of reduced vehicle movements and lower emissions are obvious.” […]
