Trevor Milton, chief executive of electric and hydrogen-powered truck start-up Nikola Motor Company, has resigned amid claims the company made fraudulent claims about its technology. The resignation comes just two weeks after Nikola signed a $2bn (£1.6bn) partnership with General Motors. Nikola also has a joint venture with Iveco to produce an electric truck. Truck makers to opt for hydrogen fuel cell technology ahead of tough new EU emission targets, says report
Truck manufacturers are investing in hydrogen fuel-cell technology to develop zero-emissions trucks in order to avoid paying hefty penalties for non-compliance with carbon-emission reduction targets from 2025, according to a report by credit rating firm Fitch Ratings.
Recycling vehicle manufacturer Farid Hillend Engineering, in partnership with Arcola Energy, has won a £7m contract by Glasgow City Council to deliver and maintain 19 hydrogen fuel powered trucks.
A planned new nuclear plant at Sizewell could also be a centre of hydrogen production for vehicle use, and the plant developer is seeking expressions of interest for partners to produce hydrogen and use it to run heavy vehicles at the site on the Suffolk coast.
