Next week sees XPO Logistics begin its 40th annual stint as the official transport partner of the Tour de France. A “buoyant” UK logistics market helped Norbert Dentressangle (ND) boost overall third quarter 2012 revenue by 10% to €2.9bn. Turnover growth was reported across all three of ND’s business divisions, with much of this down to the acquisition of new business. Logistics revenue for Q3 2012 increased 6.4% compared to Q3 2011, with like-for-like income up 2%. Year-to-date, logistics division revenue is 13.7% ahead at €1.3bn (2011: €1.15bn). Wincanton is trialling four low-level access tankers that is says will improve driver safety, and boost both its environmental credentials and vehicle utilisation. The “game changer” side manway design, which has been developed with manufacturer Feldbinder, provides side access to the silo tanker. Wincanton said the design combines the benefits of both tipping and silo tanks by reducing the potential dangers, while also offering around a 5% payload benefit compared to tipping tanks.
