Gary Bellamy (pictured) from Forterra Building Products has been named the Lifetime Achievement winner in this year’s Microlise Driver of The Year Awards. Unite has pledged to stand up for lorry drivers and make the government ensure there are adequate welfare facilities installed at the huge HGV parks in Kent currently under construction.
Ministers have agreed that charging operators working in urban areas should be a “last resort”, after four of the industry’s leading trade associations spoke to MPs about preventing HGVs from being priced out of operating in cities.
The RHA has said that rather than sabre-rattling and pushing for powers to fine, local councils would be better served encouraging dialogue between residents and businesses if they want to cut the number of trucks breaching weight-limits.
