Former BMW financial services head of strategy, Shashi Maharaj has joined the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) as the legal and membership director.

Maharaj who will be responsible for the association’s governance, compliance and membership functions, spent over 20 years with BMW in a variety of senior legal, strategy and compliance roles.

More recently he was responsible for governance and compliance in the UK and Ireland at BMW.

He said: “I am looking forward to working with members and colleagues across the association to support the vehicle rental, leasing and fleet sectors as we navigate the uncharted waters of a post-Brexit and post-pandemic business environment.”

BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney said: “We are delighted to welcome Shashi to the BVRLA family, where I know he will play an important and valuable role as part of the senior management team.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience and his strategic input will undoubtedly help to shape the future of the association as our members’ businesses continue to adapt to meet the ever evolving needs of customers at a time of ongoing regulatory change.”
