North Wales logistics firm Delsol is continuing its expansion drive with the acquisition of Caernarfon-based haulier HF Owen Transport and Storage.

Delsol purchased the company, which was launched in 1972, for an undisclosed sum from owner Harry Owen, who is retiring.

The company will continue to trade under the HF Owen name, with three members of the founder’s family continuing to work at the business along with 10 other staff.

The acquisition boosts Delsol staff numbers to 170 and the addition of HF Owen's fleet of 10 trucks brings the total number of vehicles in Delsol’s fleet to over 120.

The company said it plans to upgrade HF Owen’s fleet.

Dave Phillips, managing director of Delsol said: “We are delighted to have acquired the HF Owen business. The company is well respected across North Wales and has a loyal customer base.”

Tony Parry, who co-founded Delsol with fellow director Simon Walker in 1999, said: “We recognise the importance of not standing still and continuing to invest in the business, whether this is recruiting and training the best people, investing in the quality of our fleet or integrating the latest industry technology.”

Delsol, which is a member of The Pallet Network, The Alternative Parcel Network and the Hazchem Network, saw revenues increase by 20% last year with the number of daily deliveries rising from 1500 to 1650 in the period.

The company also expanded its dedicated storage facility to 120,000 sq ft, introduced a new warehouse management system and gained the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Certification for Storage and Distribution.
