HGV drivers at Wynnstay Agricultural Supplies in Mid-Wales have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action in a dispute over their pay structure. According to union Unite, the company, which manufactures and supplies agricultural products to farmers and the wider rural community across the UK, has imposed changes which will result in an earnings drop for drivers of up to 25%, but with an increase in contractual hours. Eddie Stobart is facing a third strike by its drivers based at Tesco’s Doncaster DC. Although the operator and Unite had been in talks via Acas in a bid to resolve the long-running jobs dispute, efforts to find a way forward have failed. The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has scheduled talks with Royal Mail every day this week to try to reach an agreement ahead of planned strike action next week (4 November).
Royal Mail is reviewing the need for its mail distribution centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, but does not expect the decision to affect the vehicle operating centre at the same site.
