Fergytrux, the Cramlington-based holding company of Fergusons Transport, increased turnover by 2.2% last year, thanks to performance improvements and Brexit stockpiling.
Accounts for the year ending 30 September 2019 showed that the haulage and warehousing business also boosted its pre-tax profits to £205,000, from £89,000 the previous year.
Turnover rose to £22.2m, up from £21.7m in 2018.
Its haulage operations increased sales by 0.6% to £16.3m and warehousing increased by 4.2% to £4.3m.
In a review of the business, the company said: “Brexit stockpiling has led to increased warehousing activities and contributed towards a profit increase from £68,924 to £166,581.
“Our Cramlington workshop and testing station is now in its second year and we are seeing marked improvements in its performance.”
The company added that it was addressing the industry-wide shortage of drivers with its close relationships with driver training groups and apprentice schemes.
Fergusons Transport is one of the largest privately owned hauliers in the North East and runs trucks out of operating centres in Cramlington, Washington, Blaydon-on-Tyne and in Plymouth.
