Mounting losses of £1.7m accrued by Pall-Ex’s three haulage subsidiaries – Shears Brothers (Transport), Intercounty Distribution and Pall-Ex London – “constrained” HLD Holding’s performance last year, according to its latest annual results. Pall-Ex says it has had successful start to its new night-time delivery service in the capital, with 4% of the pallet network’s London’s volumes already migrated to the new service within the first week of operation. The overnight service, which covers all postcodes affected by Olympics delivery restrictions, delivers to customers between 6pm and 6am, with take-up from some of the capital’s major high street brands and businesses. An expected decision by the Health and Safety Executive to not limit the weight of tail-lift pallet deliveries has been met with anger by pallet networks, with Pall-Ex group MD Kevin Buchanan describing the result as the “biggest fudge under the sun”.
