Safe Loading Pass Scheme extended to cover Liquefied Petroleum Gases

The FTA has announced that the Safe Loading Pass Scheme (SLPS) is to be extended to cover Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) from 1 January 2020.

From this date, any vehicle wishing to load LPG at participating terminals must be inspected under the SLPS when their existing pass expires.

Managed by the FTA, the SLPS identifies the vehicles and trailers that meet the safety standards required for admittance to fuel and gas loading terminals. The scheme is recognised by members of the UK Petroleum Industries Association (UKPIA) and the Tank Storage Association (TSA).

Explained Sharon Mitchell, FTA head of audits and standards: “FTA is pleased to be extending the Safe Loading Pass Scheme to the distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gases, having successfully implemented the scheme in the liquid fuels sector in 2015.

"We have worked closely with Liquid Gas UK, UKPIA and TSA to adapt the audits and inspections developed for liquid fuel tankers to LPG tankers. This will offer fuel terminal managers the same safety assurances that the scheme offers for both types of vehicle entering their premises. FTA looks forward to providing this close support to a vital distribution activity in the UK economy.”
