Brexit uncertainty and slowing sales have forced SDC Trailers to look at cutting “a number of jobs” at its plants in Mansfield and Toomebridge in Northern Ireland, the manufacturer revealed this week. The planned cuts also follow the loss of SDC Trailers’ major chassis building contract for Peterborough-based trailer manufacturer Lawrence David. Kent County Council is calling on the government to give police emergency powers to control the flow of freight around the Channel ports in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
The FTA told MPs that it was “surprised” it had not been alerted to government research that found a no-deal Brexit would result not only in severe delays at Calais but also fuel shortages affecting hauliers across the UK.
