Bridgestone has strengthened its senior management team with two new appointments in its consumer and commercial sales divisions. Greg Ward has become north region commercial business unit director, replacing John Folliss who is retiring. Bridgestone has said its €910m (£793m) proposed purchase of Tom Tom’s telematics business will create a commercial vehicle fleet powerhouse.
Ryder has claimed that the number of tyre-related breakdowns for its customers have fallen 28% since it launched an initiative to maximise fleet uptime with Bridgestone.
At the CV Show 2014, contract hire and rental giant Ryder announced it was renewing a five year tyre supply contract with Bridgestone, covering most of its fleet of 25,000 vans, trucks and trailers. Ryder has exclusively used Bridgestone rubber for over 20 years, but 2014 was a watershed in the two companies’ relationship, which became a true partnership rather than just a long term supply agreement.
