Biffa-Municipal-Collection-Round

Biffa drivers in Winchester have given their union a mandate to ballot for industrial action in a dispute over the installation of CCTV in their lorry cabs.

The GMB union said it had a number of health and safety concerns at the company regarding waste drivers and putting CCTV in lorries appeared to be in breach of its own policies and GDPR.

Nicola Nixon, GMB regional organiser, said: “It looks like we are going towards an industrial action ballot, we have now got a mandate from the members and the authority to ballot.

Last week the GMB said Biffa was refusing to talk to the union, but Nixon added: “We are still trying to talk to the employers.

“The idea is we reach a resolution and industrial action is the last resort.”

A Winchester City Council spokesman said: "This is a matter for the GMB union and Biffa to resolve between them."
