Delivery management company Whistl is looking to hire 50 drivers at its newly opened Bedford super depot as it continues its drive into the parcels market.

The recruitment drive comes ahead of the 2019 peak season which the company is predicting will be its busiest in its 15-year history.

It also follows the firm’s push last year into the parcels sector, which saw major investment in new automated parcel sortation machinery last year, and the growth of its Whistl Fulfilment business, formed from the acquisitions last year of Prism DM and Spark E Commerce Group.

The Bolton super hub which was opened in July this year is located near Junction 4 of the M61.

The company said it expects to create a total of 500 jobs at the site which consolidates Whistl’s previous operations from Leeds and Warrington giving the firm 33% greater capacity for future expansion of its existing mail, packet and parcel and e-commerce business.

Whistl chief executive Nick Wells said the company is offering drivers a “competitive salary” and the chance to drive new vehicles “equipped with the latest technology”.

He added: “We are a great place to work as we look after our people. We pay well, have excellent benefits and are passionate about having a great working environment. As a people business, our drivers are the face of the company to our customers – that’s why we value them.”
