Clugston Distribution Services has created a new Global Logistics division as part of an “extensive review” of its £17m turnover business.

The Scunthorpe-based operation, part of the Clugston Group, said the new division would provide a complete package of global supply chain options throughout the UK and the rest of the world.

These include national and international distribution through to warehousing, pick, pack and order fulfilments, and will form an integral part of the firm’s international growth plan.

To support the launch of the new division, Clugston Distribution has made a pair of appointments to strengthen its bulk fuel distribution and general distribution teams.

James Overfield, a long-standing member of the Clugston Distribution team, has been promoted to the position of bulk fuel transport manager.

He will oversee and develop the existing regional, national and international bulk fuel distribution business, which has grown rapidly over the last seven years.

Customers in this division include supermarkets, ship operators, vehicle manufacturers, as well as independent petrol stations and fuel suppliers across the UK and Europe.

The business said the appointment will ensure the division remains focused on providing “an exceptional level of service to its customers”, whilst positioning it for anticipated strategic growth as demand increases.

In 2018, the division delivered record volumes of more than 407 million litres of fuel, the highest figure since the company expanded into bulk fuel distribution in 2012.

It now operates from three strategic locations in Billingham in the North East, Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire and Upper Broughton in the East Midlands.

To support the increased demand and activity across the whole business, Matt Hales, who joined Clugston Distribution in 2014 as a fuel planner, has been appointed as quest manager.

He will lead the company’s quality, environmental (health) safety and training matters. Hales will also be responsible for supporting efforts to expand the firm’s geographical reach and technical capabilities and managing Clugston Distribution’s existing internal professional training programmes.

Tim Doggett, director of Clugston Distribution, said: “Despite challenging times in several of our key sectors, as a business we continue to grow and deliver for our customers.

“These internal appointments, combined with the introduction of a new Global Logistics division, are critical to planning for further anticipated strategic growth as demand increases for our range of services both in the UK and internationally.”

Parent company Clugston Group also announced today (5 July) that CEO Robert Vickers had stepped down from his post and left on 30 June by mutual consent having previously tendered notice to resign.

The business has appointed Glynn Thomas as interim group CEO.
