Bullet Express has bought 180,000sq ft of land behind its Baillieston, Glasgow storage centre with plans to build a £5m multi-temperature warehouse to meet rocketing demand from customers.
The company moved to the 21,000 pallet site at Baillieston in 2016 and MD David McCutcheon said it was now at client capacity, with a further 5,000 pallet site on the outskirts of Glasgow also close to full.
He said: “We have grown our business well over the years and in the last two and a half years we have been offering storage in a big way to our client base and it’s certainly taken off.
“We targeted customers and said is this something that you would need and they all did.
“I would say Brexit is only part of the reason. We’re a Pall-Ex member; we put around a 1,000 pallets a day through the system, we have a same day service and a worldwide freight department and they have all benefited greatly from the facilities.

“We are extremely busy,” he said. “All our departments are doing really well and growing. It’s definitely helped having the warehouse.”
McCutcheon added that that although the multi-temperature storage facility would be ready by autumn 2020, it was actively seeking out more warehousing now due to high levels of demand.
“We’re desperately seeking the right building and that’s the secret: flat storage areas and the right shape,” he said.
Bullet Express counts among its customers soft drinks manufacturer AG Barr, Macfarlane Packaging and German freight company Dachser and McCutcheon said that its aim over the next few years was to build on its growth in turnover during 2017/18 of £12.3m.
“We are certainly aiming to get to £15-20m, that’s in the business plan at the moment,” McCutcheon said.
