Michael Ellis has been appointed minister of state for transport, taking over the role from Jesse Norman, who has joined the Treasury after two years at the DfT.
Ellis previously served as parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport from Jan 2018 to May of this year.
He also worked as deputy leader of the House of Commons from 17 July 2016 to 8 January 2018.
Ellis was elected Conservative MP for Northampton North in May 2010.
As well as taking responsibility for freight, Ellis will lead on electric and autonomous vehicles;the future of mobility; transport technology; cycling and walking policy; Highways England and roads; international vehicle standards; light rail; motoring agencies; road safety; traffic; transport and the environment.
