Millions of pounds of unspent apprenticeship funding is in danger of being diverted into the Treasury’s coffers, with many operators unaware that they can transfer a quarter of their funding to subcontractors to help pay for their apprenticeship schemes. The government’s apprenticeship levy will come into force in April 2017. This means in just four months, companies with a payroll of £3m or more will be paying 0.5% of that cost into a pot, which UK businesses will be able to draw from for staff training.
Six fuel delivery operators face further talks at Acas after tanker drivers represented by union Unite rejected proposals regarding employment security. Enforcement of the HGV Road User Levy in Northern Ireland is to begin on Monday (17 November), the Department of the Environment (DoE) has confirmed, six-months after enforcement in the rest of the UK began.
