Kuehne + Nagel is closing down its Birmingham and Nottingham depots and transferring 270 staff to East Midlands Gateway (EMG) as it gears up to reach full operational capacity at the new hub within weeks.
The new hub, which will house Overland, the logistics company’s road and rail division, includes 40,000sq ft of temperature controlled warehouse space dedicated to pharmaceutical products and a 155,000sq ft cross-dock area for general cargo.
A spokeswoman for the company confirmed to motortransport.co.uk that, “we are moving the activities in Nottingham and Birmingham to the East Midlands Gateway hub and the existing sites will close.
"All employees in Nottingham and Birmingham have been offered jobs and the majority will transfer to EMG and continue to work on their current activities”.

She added that an additional 20 people will be employed to fill roles in the newly launched temperature controlled operation.
Jim Hedderwick, Kuehne + Nagel UK Overland director, said the company had made “significant” investment in new technology at the hub, adding that the site would add value to its customers’ businesses and be a “a great place to work” for staff.
The Overland hub, which was officially opened this week, will be fully operational by the end of April.
