RPL Transport has followed parent company Bedfords Group into administration, motortransport.co.uk has learnt.

RPL Transport, which trades as RPL Logistics and is based in Milton Keynes, appointed Howard Smith and David Costley-Wood from KPMG’s restructuring practice as administrators today (1 April).

Smith and Costley-Wood were appointed administrators of Bedfords Group (Bedfords Limited) last week.

Following the appointment of the administrators, 25 staff were made redundant. The remaining staff have been retained in the short term to assist in winding down operations.

Smith said: “RPL Transport has faced similar challenges to the wider Bedfords business, including significant cashflow pressure, which increased significantly since the administrations of Bedfords and Linq.

“Without any further investment, the decision was made by the directors to appoint administrators and, regrettably, cease operations.

He added: “We are on site working with affected employees to assist them in making claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.

“We will also begin to realise the assets of the businesses so would encourage any interested parties to come forward.”

RPL Transport was also a member of the Palletforce network, as was Bedfords.
