Grocer Co-op has launched a new online delivery service using electric cargo bikes to transport goods from local stores to consumers within two hours. It is the first time Co-op has offered online delivery, and it opted for the power-assisted bikes as they are zero-emission. The Co-operative Group has appointed Adrian Buxton as general manager at its new £20m food distribution depot in Avonmouth, which is due to open later this year. Buxton, who previously managed the group’s 320,000ft² composite DC in Thurrock, Essex, will head up the new RDC, near Bristol, which will employ up to 900 staff. The Co-operative Group has taken delivery of 330 new Carrier Transicold refrigeration units to coincide with the final stage of development at its RDC in Andover, Hampshire. The order includes 171 Supra 950 multi-temperature systems mounted to 18- and 26-tonne Scania rigids, and 159 Vector 1850 units fitted to Gray & Adams refrigerated trailers.
