The DVSA has appointed Becky Thomas as the new director of strategy and policy.

She will have responsibility for shaping the strategic direction of DVSA and transforming the services it provides to help improve road safety.

Thomas had been deputising in the same role since 1 June 2018 and has been promoted permanently following her recent success in an open recruitment competition.

DVSA chief executive Gareth Llewellyn said: “Becky has spent much of her career with DVSA and as former head of planning and performance, she has a wealth of knowledge and experience of all aspects of our work.

“Having made a significant contribution to the development of our five-year strategy, this important role brings Becky the opportunity to shape the policies needed for its implementation and influence the agency’s future strategic direction.”

Thomas added: “I’m thrilled to be taking up this exciting and rewarding role on a permanent basis. Our five-year strategy sets out what we’ll do to help everyone stay safe on Britain’s roads and achieve our clear vision of safer drivers, safer vehicles and safer journeys for all.

“I’m looking forward to seeing it through to a successful conclusion, as well as planning ahead to prepare for the advent of new technologies, such as autonomous vehicles and virtual reality”

Thomas will be a member of DVSA’s executive committee and her permanent appointment is effective immediately.
