Bridgestone has said its €910m (£793m) proposed purchase of Tom Tom’s telematics business will create a commercial vehicle fleet powerhouse. Import tariffs of up to £60 per tyre imposed by the EU on Chinese-made tyres in May this year have “shaken up” the UK truck tyre market according to Bridgestone.
Norbert Dentressangle (ND) says it has invested more than £1m in a new shared-user site at Rugby, to serve as an NDC for Continental Tyre Group. The new 212,000ft² facility, located in Prologis Central Park just off J1 of the M6, will also store products from fellow ND customer Bridgestone UK, which currently occupies around 60% of the available capacity. At the CV Show 2014, contract hire and rental giant Ryder announced it was renewing a five year tyre supply contract with Bridgestone, covering most of its fleet of 25,000 vans, trucks and trailers. Ryder has exclusively used Bridgestone rubber for over 20 years, but 2014 was a watershed in the two companies’ relationship, which became a true partnership rather than just a long term supply agreement.
