The government has approved Leeds City Council’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) plans, which will see pre-Euro-6 trucks charged £50 per day to enter. A blockade of Calais by French hauliers and farmers demanding the immediate removal of the migrant camps, launched this week, will make drivers a sitting target for migrant attacks and could trigger Operation Stack, the FTA and RHA have warned.
Trade associations welcomed the new London Freight Enforcement Partnership launched by TfL and partner agencies earlier this week, although the RHA called on the transport body to make the results of the enforcement project more visible to the industry.
The RHA and local member Steve Porter Transport took a truck to Newport for the start of the Isle of Wight cylcing festival on 14 September to get cyclists in the cab and demonstrate the blind spots faced by LGV drivers. Part of the RHA’s cycle safety campaign, the initiative is part of a series of events bringing together cyclists and operators so both groups understand each other’s concerns.
