Developer db symmetry has announced two major deals with food retailers.
The Co-op Food Group has signed up for a purpose-built 661,000sq ft regional distribution centre at Symmetry Park Biggleswade while Iceland Foods has taken a 221,000sq ft speculatively-built warehouse at Symmetry Park Swindon (pictured).
The Co-op unit has been let on a 20-year lease and, once complete, will create 1,200 jobs. Construction of the unit, which is intended to support the Co-op’s expansion plans in the South of England, will start at the end of 2019.
Andy Perry, the Co-op’s supply chain and logistics director, said that the new facility will allow the company to become more efficient and improve the availability of products.
“The move will reduce road miles, overall supply chain costs and supports our stores in the South,” he commented.
Iceland’s warehouse will be in addition to an existing operation in Swindon and is the first unit to be built at Symmetry Park Swindon.
There is space available for a further 1 million sq ft of warehousing at the development.
