Sheffield City Council has revealed plans for a clean air zone (CAZ), which will see non Euro-6 HGVs paying a £50 daily charge to access its inner ring road while cars go free. Hermes has slashed its CO2 output by 6% in the past year, with the business achieving savings of 18.4% since 2008. The parcels firm has set itself a target of a 20% reduction by 2015. London mayor Boris Johnson has abandoned plans to introduce a Euro-4 NOx standard for trucks operating in the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in 2015, but buses will still have to comply.
The RHA and local member Steve Porter Transport took a truck to Newport for the start of the Isle of Wight cylcing festival on 14 September to get cyclists in the cab and demonstrate the blind spots faced by LGV drivers. Part of the RHA’s cycle safety campaign, the initiative is part of a series of events bringing together cyclists and operators so both groups understand each other’s concerns.
