Government plans to cut the cost of apprenticeship training for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are welcome but more needs to be done to address the skills shortage, according to Europa Worldwide Group. The operator welcomed plans announced by Chancellor Philip Hammond in the budget last week to halve SMEs’ contributions towards apprenticeships to 5%. Freight and warehousing specialists Europa Worldwide Logistics has opened a new £20m purpose-built distribution centre in Birmingham. Constructed in just 24 weeks, the new 155,000ft² facility at ProLogis Park, Minworth, brings together a number of the company’s operating divisions under one roof, including European express, seafreight, national distribution, exhibition and project forwarding and logistics services.
