Operators taking part in the DfT’s Low Emission Freight and Logistics trial headed to Cenex LCV at Millbrook last week to highlight progress being made in developing cleaner delivery vehicles for industry.
Electric, natural gas, KERS, dual-fuel hydrogen, smart charging and aerodynamic lightweight vehicles were all on show to demonstrate the technology-neutral scope of the Innovate UK supported trial.

Speaking to MT at Millbrook, Venn Chesterton, ULEV lead at Innovate UK, said it was “fantastic” to see so many trial vehicles already up and running on UK roads.
“To have so many of these new low-emission versions on display today is testament to the ingenuity of the innovators and the willingness of the operators to engage in this type of demonstration.”
He added the first set of results from the trial vehicles is expected later next year.
“ We are being very comprehensive in our approach to the data gathering. We are taking data from the vehicles over a year of their operation as well laboratory tests to determine their impact on climate change and local air quality compared to a standard diesel vehicle,” Chesterton added.
The line-up of vehicles at the show were led in a convoy around Millbrook’s test track by Red Dwarf actor and electric vehicle advocate Robert Llewellyn (pictured at the wheel, alongside Innovate UK's Venn Chesterton, left, and Gnewt Cargo director Sam Clarke, right).
