Airdrie-based housing contractor, Insulated Render Systems (IRS) has told its haulage suppliers that they will need to gain FORS Silver accreditation. The external wall insulation specialist wants all deliveries to its sites to be made by companies working to a minimum FORS Silver standard within an 18-month time-frame. Cemex, which has been shortlisted for the Motor Transport Safety in Operation award, has achieved Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (Fors) gold status for its national fleet.
TfL has admitted it is “disappointed” that only 16 London Boroughs are currently Fors-accredited, and that a number of London Boroughs and other bodies including the Metropolitan Police continue to use sub-contractors who are not Fors-accredited.
Operators joining newly privatised Fors later this month will pay from £485 up to an eye-watering £11,250 in annual fees to be part of the benchmarking and safety initiative.
