Own account operator Poundworld Retail has appointed administrators after talks with a potential buyer collapsed. A firm run by David James Zwecker, who previously worked as operations director at failed transport company Noel Zwecker International Transport, has applied for an O-licence.
The transport and logistics sector is set for a flurry of mergers and acquisitions this year, according to advisory firm KPMG, following a year of subdued activity in 2011. Burdens, the civil engineering products and construction materials supplier, has been placed into administration. The company, which has 20 operating centres across the UK and an O-licence to run up 127 vehicles plus trailers, is in the hands of administrator Duff & Phelps. “We will continue to trade the company as a going concern whilst we continue discussions with those parties interested in acquiring some, or all of the remaining branches,” said administrator Philip Duffy.
