UPS has opened a new sorting and delivery site at DP London Gateway. The £120m site will create around 500 new jobs, and is thought to be one of the parcel carrier’s largest infrastructure projects outside of the US. TNT Express has restructured its UK and Ireland international division sales force as part of a wider strategy to boost turnover and improve customer service.
TNT said it is more certain about its future after the collapse of its multi-billion euro acquisition by UPS last week, despite analysts warning that the industry giant needs to “work out what is going on”. UPS has added 10 new dual-fuel Mercedes-Benz Axors to its dedicated London 2012 fleet, the first of their kind in the logistic giant’s global 2,500-strong alternative fuel fleet. The long-wheelbase Axors feature a 4×2 drivetrain with a 360hp six-cylinder diesel engine, which has been modified by the Handstaff Group to enable them to run on a dual-fuel blend of biomethane and diesel.
