UPS has opened a new sorting and delivery site at DP London Gateway. The £120m site will create around 500 new jobs, and is thought to be one of the parcel carrier’s largest infrastructure projects outside of the US. UPS has completed its final delivery to the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and Main Press Centre (MPC) at the Olympic Park. As a result the equipment for 21,000 media representatives is now all delivered, set up and in place for the start of the Games. The European Commission (EC) said the aborted UPS and TNT merger would have increased prices and would not have been challenged enough by other carriers. The regulator officially blocked the merger from taking place on 30 January, claiming it would have restricted competition for express delivery between European countries in 15 nations.
