UPS has opened a new sorting and delivery site at DP London Gateway. The £120m site will create around 500 new jobs, and is thought to be one of the parcel carrier’s largest infrastructure projects outside of the US. UPS has opened two facilities within the Olympic Park allowing athletes, team officials and the international media the ability to send and receive packages throughout the Games. The first ‘relay room’ will be located within the Olympic Village providing team officials with an outbound service offering packaging, customs advice, security clearance, carbon-neutral shipping and delivery. The offer period for the proposed merger of UPS and TNT Express has once again been extended. Following an exemption granted by The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), the period has been extended until one week after competition clearances have been obtained from regulators, the European Commission and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. UPS has acquired specialist international and temperature-controlled load broker Freightex for an undisclosed sum, and will merge it with Coyote Logistics – a similar business in North America that UPS acquired in August 2015.
