Finalists from across the road haulage sector have been shortlisted in the annual FTA Everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards ahead of the ceremony next month.

The event rewards and celebrates women in the transport sector, and hands out awards in categories including inspirational leaders and employees who have gone above and beyond what is expected of them in their roles.

For the first time in 2018, Everywoman has introduced a Male Agent of Change Award, which will be given to a man to recognise his "advancing the progress of women working in Transport and Logistics".

Men make up 80% of the transport sector, according to the ONS, and the gender pay gap reporting deadline revealed some less than flattering portraits of some of the industry's biggest players.

She's RHA founder and frontwoman Lesley O'Brien is among the freight sector nominees for going above and beyond, while Pall-Ex's director of network services Sue Buchanan and Whistl general manager Geraldine McEwan are up for leader awards.

In the supply chain category, nominees include managers from Asda, Wincanton and XPO Logistics.

Nominees for the coveted Industry Champion Award, which was handed to O'Donovan Waste Disposal's Jackie O'Donovan in 2017, include NOVUS operations manager Bethany Fovargue and Royal Mail Fleet's regional maintenance manager Debbie Rivers.

Everywoman co-founder Maxine Benson said: "This year’s judging panel has selected an exceptionally impressive cohort of role models working in transport and logistics - all making valuable contributions through their innovation, mentorship and leadership.

"They are shifting perceptions of the opportunities this industry offers and will inspire the next generation of talent who may have never considered a career in the sector, to view it as an exciting option."

FTA chief executive David Wells added: "As the only membership organisation representing the entire logistics sector, FTA is delighted to support the FTA Everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards once again, to pay tribute to the incredibly talented women working right across the sector."

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 14 June. Visit the Everywoman website to see a full list of finalists.
