Yusen Logistics has begun trading out of its specialist automotive centre in Tamworth, building on volumes out of its operation at Burnaston, near Derby. The 81,000ft² site, adjacent to the M42, offers decanting, crossdocking, stockholding and sequencing operations from first and second tier automotive parts manufacturers serving Yusen’s major car manufacturing clients. Construction has finished on Yusen Logistics’ latest warehouse at Prologis Park Wellingborough West, which gives the group a nationwide footprint of more than 2 million ft².
Yusen Logistics is to spend some £9m upgrading its fleet and IT systems after merging its road transport operations with its air and sea freight forwarding businesses last year. Some £7m will be spent on a combination of vehicles and mechanical handling equipment as well as trailers including pillar-less tri-axles with sliding suzies, and its Department for Transport allocation of five 15.65m trailers.
