Acumen Automotive Logistics has expanded its operation with the acquisition of J&A Transporters. The acquired Somerset-based business specialises in used vehicle movements for auction houses, direct contracts with dealerships for new cars and vehicle swaps, as well as fleet movements for rental operators. Ryder Europe has purchased CV contract hire and fleet management specialist Euroway for an undisclosed sum. Euroway has a total fleet of 1,419 CVs, ranging from 3.5 tonners to tractor units, plus trailers. Daf is the dominant supplier to Euroway. In 2010, its combined divisions generated a combined turnover of about £22m and a pre-tax loss of circa £730,000. Welsh quarrying and haulage group GD Harries (GDH) is to be sold to construction materials company SigmaRoc.
Widnes-based Sutton Group has acquired Imperial Tankers, the bulk chemical transport arm of Hargreaves, creating a single bulk tanker fleet of some 700 units with a combined turnover of approximately £114m from UK operations alone.
