Kitchen manufacturer and supplier Howdens Joinery has been fined £1.2m after a visiting HGV driver was crushed whilst delivering into one of its sites in 2014. A driver who died while making a delivery to Toyota’s factory in Burnaston last week worked for Goldstar Transport in Felixstowe, the motor manufacturer has confirmed.
The introduction of stricter guidelines on tail-lift delivery pallet weights moved a step closer this week after the HSE confirmed it had completed a series of additional tests to establish the maximum safe weight for pallets.
An expected decision by the Health and Safety Executive to not limit the weight of tail-lift pallet deliveries has been met with anger by pallet networks, with Pall-Ex group MD Kevin Buchanan describing the result as the “biggest fudge under the sun”.
