Ketra Logistics has acquired fellow Palletways member IEFS to expand its coverage in London. Ketra MD Martyn Young takes over the Barking-based business from Derek Best, who has retired after more than 20 years at the helm. Young said the two companies will continue to operate independently. Pollock (Scotrans) has acquired Blackburn-based haulier Gilbraith (TS) for an undisclosed seven figure sum, giving the Scottish operator extended reach into north-west England.
Palletways has won a £2m, 12-month rolling contract with Better Bathrooms.com that will see the network move some 70,000 pallets a year. Bathroom furniture, accessories and suites will be transported from Palletways hubs in Fradley, Staffs; Greenford, London and Livingston, West Lothian. The Association of Pallet Networks (APN) has revealed a 16% increase in volumes for the first quarter of 2014 compared with the same period last year, with members delivering more than 4.6 million pallets between January and March.
