John Mitchell (Grangemouth) has reported a significant rise in profit after cost-control measures and a focus on its warehousing arm. For the year ending 31 March, the haulage and warehousing business recorded a turnover largely static compared with last year, at £13.2m. Profit at Hargreaves Services’ transport division plummeted by more than£1m in the six months to November 2015, as the company was hammered by adverse conditions in the coal, steel, construction and waste markets and unseasonably warm winter weather.
