John Mitchell (Grangemouth) has reported a significant rise in profit after cost-control measures and a focus on its warehousing arm. For the year ending 31 March, the haulage and warehousing business recorded a turnover largely static compared with last year, at £13.2m. City Link cut its first quarter losses by more than a third but remained loss-making ahead of its sale to turnaround investor Better Capital.
Hermes has revealed record results at its UK division, with revenue up 22% in 2011. The parcels company says this reinforces its position as the country’s second-largest home-delivery business. Revenue stood at €303m during 2011, up from €248m in the previous year. Langdons has taken on two more trailers from Gray & Adams to boost its urban delivery operations in cities in Scotland. The trailers are equipped with Anteo tuck-under tail-lifts, Whiting roller shutter doors and the latest Thermo-King Spectrum fridge units to cope with urban deliveries. The tractor units can also operate on overnight trunk routes using standard length trailers, resulting in greater operational efficiency.
