Boots UK has received the first of 60 double decker trailers from Transdek and The Cartwright Group, which are intended to reduce its trunking mileage. The double-deck wedge trailers can accommodate 128 roll cages. This will improve the company’s individual trailer capacity, which is currently 104 cages per load. Northamptonshire-based Knights of Old has taken delivery of two new Palletforce-branded longer semi-trailers. Both are already in action – one based at its Kettering headquarters and the other at its Hitchin site. The 15.65m long double-deck trailers are part of an order for nine longer semi-trailers in total, all being supplied by SDC Trailers. Based at its 35,000sq ft factory in Doncaster, Transdek is best known for its innovative ‘Wedge’ fixed double-deck trailers and rapid install, modular double deck lifts. Founder and CEO Mark Adams is on a mission to highlight the inefficiencies of many of the current crop of moving deck stepframe double-deckers, which he says are typically only able to carry up to 18 tonnes of payload and leave the tractor unit drive axle unstable.
