Turners (Soham) has added its 600th specialised Daf FTP to its fleet. The 440hp XF tractor with a lightweight mid-lift axle joins Turners’ 1,750-strong fleet. Turners is believed to be the largest operator of Daf FTP trucks worldwide. The Daf, purchased via dealership Chassis Cab, will cover more than 100,000km a year. Lloyd Fraser Group has placed a 55-truck order with rental firm Ryder following a major 3PL contract win with an undisclosed fashion retailer. The order comprises 45 rigids – 16 Daf LF 7.5-tonners and 29 CF 18-tonne box trucks – which will be used on multi-drop delivery work, as well as 10 Renault Premium 44-tonne tractor units, which will be used on overnight trunking runs to the company’s five hubs. Social distancing regulations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic look set to have far-reaching implications for European truck manufacturers.
Turnover and profit both rose by some 12% last year at Newmarket, Suffolk-based Turners (Soham), as a prudent approach to rates and new business continued to pay off. In the 12 months to 31 December 2011, turnover jumped 11.9% to just under £235m (2010: £210m); while pre-tax profit rose 12.5% to £24.3m (2010: £21.6m).
