DHL Supply Chain’s long-standing distribution contract with BHS will end on 6 August, the operator has confirmed, after the collapse of the high street retailer.

The operation, based at DHL’s Atherstone site, employed more than 300 DHL staff members and had been in effect for more than 20 years.

In a statement, DHL said the members of staff involved in the contract have been offered “a number of options for redeployment within commuting distance of Atherstone”.

DHL added: “We would like to thank all our employees for the commitment they have shown in recent years and throughout this difficult time.”

BHS went into administration in April this year, but was closed in June when administrator Duff & Phelps could not find a buyer for the business.

The administator said that although multiple offers had been made for BHS, “none were able to complete a deal due the working capital required to secure the future of the company”.

Philip Duffy, MD of Duff & Phelps said: "The British high street is changing and in these turbulent times for retailers, BHS has fallen as another victim of the seismic shifts we are seeing.”
